The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, has in terms of section 47C of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), authorised a three-year grace period for the SANAS accreditation of independent assessors as required by the Technical Guidelines for the Validation and Verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG Verification Guidelines), published under Government Notice No. 1496, in Government Gazette No. 45452, on 12 November 2021, in terms of section 12 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004).
Phase 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Verification Programme will start in January 2030.
